Ignore them. You don't need to do either, lip syncing is a piece of p*ss my friend when you know how. Its all about timing - you trigger the animation at specific times in the sound. The best example can be found here:

If its a bit over your head, start at the beginning with Kenny's tutorials:

The guy is a star. I've written to him a couple of times asking specific questions and he's very helpful.
Good luck!In macromedia flash, is it possible to program lip sync using actionscript?
You would need to have sync points in the sound sample you were playing, and a way for actionscript to detect them; not sure how you would go about that.In macromedia flash, is it possible to program lip sync using actionscript?

OR
';I do my lip synchs a bit differently in that I put the singer as a movie clip and have stopped frames for each mouth position. For each frame, I label them and then from the root I use actionscript to ';tell'; the singer which frame to go to. e.g if I had a movie clip named ';larry'; from root I would create a blank keyframe and then tell it: larry.gotoAndStop(';a';); or larry.gotoAndStop(';oo';);';
